K-P likely to experience heavy rainfall on Saturday

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) issued on Friday an alert for heavy rainfall in different parts of the province, starting Saturday.

The authority also issued directives to all district administrations and Rescue 1122 to take precautionary measures to avert any human and material loss.

The PDMA also warned residents of low-lying areas and all concerned authorities to take necessary measures in advance.

It further advised all tourists to avoid visiting hilly areas and asked the general population to contact its helpline: 1700, in case of any emergency.

As of September 6, K-P had seen the highest number of casualties during the last monsoon spell - earlier this month - with 195 deaths. The death toll was followed by Sindh, 84 deaths, 19 in Balochistan, 16 in Punjab, 11 in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and 10 in Kashmir.

In addition to the casualties, monsoon rains and urban flooding damaged 10 access roads, 10 bridges, two hotels, three shops, five mosques and six powerhouses. Moreover, 1,249 houses were partially damaged and 1,359 houses were completely destroyed.
