Cops 'find doctor’s drug suppliers’

The investigation police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested a group of drug dealers who supplied cocaine to the female doctor who died by suicide in Defence Housing Authority. According to South Investigation SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi, the suspects are involved in the online sale of drugs. Brohi said that cocaine, hashish and a motorcycle were seized from Saadullah, Jamal alias Nasir, Bilal and Owais. Saadullah had sold cocaine to M* and this was deduced through call data records, said the SSP. According to police sources, the group supplies drugs within half an hour of receiving the order online. The police suspect a woman is also part of the gang and raids are being carried out for her arrest. 

Five injured as rickshaw overturns

Five persons, including a child, were injured in a road accident on Liaquatabad flyover late on Tuesday night. The accident took place as a speeding rickshaw moving down the flyover’s ramp overturned. As a result, five persons travelling in the rickshaw were injured. The injured, including Zubaida, 50, Samreen, 25, Afsheen, 28, Saima, 23, and three-year-old Saim, were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. 

Rickshaw driver injured in accident

A rickshaw driver was injured in a road accident near Rio Centre in Saddar late on Tuesday night. A speeding vehicle hit his rickshaw, destroying it completely and leaving the driver injured. Soon after the accident, a patrolling police party of Madadgar-15 Police reached the spot and provided the injured driver first aid. He was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical for further treatment. 

Fire erupts in garbage-filled plot

A fire erupted in a plot, where piles of garbage were dumped, in Gulistan-e-Johar in the wee hours of Wednesday. Area residents were alarmed soon after the fire broke out, fearing that it might spread to engulf their houses. Hence, they were quick to make efforts to douse the flames on their own, but failing to do so, they informed the fire department of the incident. Thereafter, two fire tenders reached the spot and firefighters controlled the fire in some time. The cause of the fire couldn’t be ascertained till the filing of this report. 

Teenager electrocuted to death

A teenage boy, identified as Taha Hussain, 16, was electrocuted to death in a house near Johar Morr in Gulistan-e-Johar on Tuesday night. According to the family of the deceased, he was working with electrical wires when he received a fatal electric shock. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the family. 

Woman's body found in apartment

The strangulated body of a woman was found from an apartment near Beach View Park in Clifton on Tuesday night. The police reached at the spot and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The deceased had died after allegedly committing suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. However, police are further investigating the case.

Russian consulate employee found dead

The body of an employee of Russian consulate was found from a house in Clifton on Tuesday night. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. According to South SSP Sheeraz Nazeer, the deceased was identified as Vladimir Antonio, who was a Russian citizen. He added that the residents of the house claimed that Antonio had died a natural death. However, police have launched an investigation into the case.

Man, brothers arrested for 'killing wife'

Memon Goth Police arrested on Wednesday a man, along with his two brothers, on charges of killing his wife, Amna.

Amna's body was found in Samoon Goth on September 21 and initially, her husband, Abdul Ghaffar, had claimed the death was a consequence of an accident. However, Amna's brother, Ali Gul, approached the police the next day and accused Ghaffar and his two brothers, Ali Akbar Magsi add Lanji Magsi, of killing her. Police then booked a case under Sections 280 (pertaining to the rash navigation of vessels) and 302 (pertaining to murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the three on Gul's behalf.

In his his statement to the police, Gul said Amna would often complain of Ghaffar and his brothers torturing her. He said that her body was found in Ali's house and was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem. He accused Ghaffar and both his brothers of killing Amna.

Later, police carried out a raid and arrested Ghaffar, Ali and Lanji.

Police said that arrested suspects were being interrogated and they hoped to solve the case soon.

Motorcycle skids: Man injured in road accident

A man was injured in a road accident on Sharae Noor Jahan in North Nazimabad on Tuesday night. Hamza, 20, sustained injuries as his motorcycle went into a skid. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. Our correspondent

ATC sentences man to 11 years in jail

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced on Wednesday a man to 11 years of imprisonment, along with penal servitude, after finding him guilty in cases pertaining to the possession of illegal weapons, police encounter and attempt to murder.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs20,000 on the convict, Anwar alias Faisal. According to the prosecution, the Anwar was arrested in 2019 in Gulshan-e-Iqbal after an encounter with the police.

Separately, the ATC adjourned the hearing of a case pertaining to the provision of medical treatment to terrorists. 

An ATC was hearing the case at the Karachi Central Jail, where accused Dr Asim Hussain, Anis Qaimkhani, witness Inspector Nisar Qureshi and others appeared before the court. However, accused Usman Moazzam couldn't attend the hearing due to ill health.

Hence, the lawyers requested the court to adjourn the hearing. The court adjourned the hearing till October 3.
