RAWALPINDI:

The admissions to grade XI at reputed government colleges in Rawalpindi closed at more than 80 per cent marks, officials said on Monday.

However, students with B and below grades were left with no choice, except seeking admissions at private institutions who welcome all grades with open arms as long as they pay the hefty tuition fee.

Offering standard education free of cost, the state-run educational institutions remain the target of students coming out of schools after matriculation.

The public and private colleges and higher secondary schools in the Rawalpindi district have started taking new admissions from Monday.

However, high merit for becoming eligible for admission has disappointed the students and most of them are now looking to take admissions in private institutions, students and parents checking merit lists outside a college told The Express Tribune.

It was noted during a survey that the competition for a seat at public educational institutions has pushed up the merit for admissions.
