Nine killed in 936 RTCs in a day

LAHORE:

At least nine people were killed whereas 1,043 sustained injuries in 936 road traffic crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Out of the total injured, 618 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals whereas, 425 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site. The majority, around 69 per cent, involved motorcycles. Furthermore, the analysis showed that 401 drivers, 27 underage drivers, 161 pedestrians, and 490 passengers were among the victims of these RTCs. Statistics revealed that 222 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 226 persons, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list, followed by 84 accidents in Faisalabad with 96 victims and Gujranwala at third with 65 RTCs and 68 victims. The details further showed that 1,052 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 825 male and 227 female victims. The age group of the victims showed that 174 were under 18 years of age, 580 victims were between 18 and 40 years and the remaining 298 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age. As per the data, 864 motorcycles, 125 autorickshaws, 77 motorcars, 27 vans, six passenger buses, 32 trucks and 126 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid RTCs.
