Rally staged against the drugs menace in Gwadar
Various political parties and members of civil society carried out a rally against the curse of narcotics in Gwadar.
They marched on different roads of Gwadar to record their protest against the rapid spread of narcotics throughout the province. Crowds of protesters gathered at Sirat-un-Nabi Chowk to vent out their anger against drug peddlers.
“We demand action against narcotics smugglers”, Haji Muhammad Azam Kalanchi, the President of civil society Gwadar told the protesters. He lashed out at the government for its failure to eradicate the menace of drugs from society. “The curse of narcotics has destroyed scores of families in Balochistan.”
The protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans condemning an overt sale of narcotics in Gwadar and other areas. They also chanted slogans against the government demanding action against drug peddlers.
“We want practical action against drug peddlers”, Mir Arshad Kamlati, another civil society activist said.
The protesters also demanded a complete ban on the sale of wine and other drugs to the youth. They also sought strict action against international drug traffickers using sea routes near Gwadar.
“Lawyers should not contest cases of drug peddlers in courts”, another protester said on the occasion. People of the society should join hands against the drug mafia and mount pressure on the government to take action against them.
The rally also urged the provincial government to issue an order to medical stores owners to not sell medicines without prescriptions.
