Anti-polio campaign begins in K-P

Over 30,000 healthcare workers deployed

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz on Friday kick-started a polio immunisation campaign by administering oral vaccine drops to a child.

The chief secretary later told the media that during the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, conducting an anti-polio campaign was a challenge but they still managed to do it. During the new campaign, over 6.4 million children will be administered the oral vaccine.

For this, over 30,000 health workers will fan out into the districts.

Strict security measures have also been adopted, Dr Niaz said. He added that his subordinates will ensure that the vaccine reaches every child across the province. He cleared that after polio routine immunization program would be resumed and a strategy will be devised for the programmes to get the best results.
