NOORPUR THAL:

Two women were shot dead by a man over a marital dispute in Noorpur Thal on Friday.

Police officials said that the marriage of 22-year-old Madiha Gul, daughter of Yasmeen Akhtar and Gulraiz Akhtar, was fixed to the accused Tahsin Abbas four years ago by Madiha’s father.

However, Madiha refused to marry Tahsin and had discussed the matter with her mother. After the two families quarreled over the matter and failed to reach an agreement to end the engagement, the accused Tahsin, in a fit of rage, shot dead Madiha and her mother Yasmeen. The accused held the other family members at gunpoint and eventually managed to flee from the crime scene.

The gunshots and subsequent murder spread fear among the locals. As soon as the incident was reported, Noorpur Thal DSP Saeedullah Khan, Joda Kalan SHO Malik Tariq Awan reached the spot and both the bodies were referred to Joharabad DHQ hospital under his supervision. The DSP and the SHO arrested the accused within 18 hours. The DSP stated that the accused will be punished as per the law.
