PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Deputy Speaker Mehmood Jan on Thursday said that the powers granted to police under the K-P Police Act 2017, are being misused and hinted at revoking them unless the course was corrected.

The deputy speaker made these remarks while presiding over a meeting of the K-P Assembly Standing Committee on Home and Tribal Affairs on Thursday.

Jan said that the K-P police needs training on public dealing in a humane and friendly manner.

The deputy speaker further said even after the promulgation of the K-P Police Act 2017, complaints are received daily against the mistreatment of citizens by the police.

He was of the view that the police should be cognisant of the fact that they must treat citizens with respect.

The K-P Assembly deputy speaker further said that medical professionals also need to be sensitised about dealing with people.

Committee members stressed that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police chief should implement the recommendations made in the meeting for reforming the police department.
