Pakistan and Turkey have vast potential for collaboration in the field of agriculture and livestock research, remarked Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam.
His comments came in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul on Thursday, where he invited Turkish companies to invest in Pakistan’s dairy farming, agribusiness and food processing sectors.
According to him, Turkish investment would further help strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations between the two countries. The minister appreciated Turkey for providing assistance to Pakistan in various fields and welcomed its interest in the development of agriculture and livestock sectors.
Imam also highlighted the significance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Pakistan in February 2020 and welcomed the subsequent signing of Strategic Economic Framework agreement between the two countries.
He mentioned that the Strategic Economic Framework would go a long way towards deepening bilateral relations as well as development of agriculture and livestock sectors in Pakistan.
“We are waiting for the composition of a joint working group on agriculture and water as well as meeting dates from the Turkish side,” he said.
He stressed that Pakistan was ready to hold first meeting of the working group on agriculture and water virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Food secretary has been appointed focal person of the joint working group on agriculture and water.
