Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman visited the Sindh High Court Bar Association on Wednesday and invited the lawyers to participate in the ‘Karachi rights movement’ campaign on September 27. Later talking to the media, he stated that this movement aimed to make the rulers identify the city’s civic issues and resolve them. “It appears the rulers are not serious about solving the people’s issues and we are not optimistic, given their past performance,” he said. He asserted that all political parties were busy in point-scoring regarding the Karachi package announced by the prime minister, with no on-ground action to resolve the problems. He voiced JI’s demand for a fresh population census in Karachi and further called for a forensic audit of K-Electric’s 15-year performance, expressing hope that the National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority would take action against the power utility.
