BAP’s Khalid Bizenjo wins Senate by-poll

In Saturday’s by-election 61 members cast their votes

Muhammad Khalid Bizenjo of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) won the Senate by-election in the Balochistan assembly with a comfortable margin on Saturday, getting 38 votes against 21 votes polled to Ghousullah of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).

The 65-strong house currently comprises 64 members as one member, Syed Fazl Agha passed away a few months ago. In Saturday’s by-election 61 members cast their votes. Of the cast votes, two were rejected by the presiding officer.

In all four candidates were in the fray to fill the Senate seat vacated by late Hasil Bizenjo who passed away on August 20. Two independent candidates, Munir Ahmed Baloch, who withdrew last night, and Muhammad Ali, did not get any votes.
