Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday took notice of the gang rape of a woman on Lahore-Sialkot motorway and the sexual assault on a minor girl in Karachi and sought reports from the police chiefs of Punjab and Sindh on the two incidents.

“The protection of women is the first priority and responsibility of the government,” the premier said in a statement. “Such brutality cannot be allowed in any civilised society, added, noting that such incidents were a violation of social values and a disgrace to the society.

The premier order the inspectors general of the two provinces to bring those involved in two incidents to justice as soon as possible.

He also directed the authorities concerned to take steps to make laws more effective in preventing sexual abuse of children and women.

On Tuesday night, two robbers gang-raped a mother of two on the motorway within the Gujjarpura police jurisdiction when she was driving to Gujranwala in her car and forced to stop at the Gujjarpura section of the motorway after running out of fuel.

In Karachi, a five-year-old girl whose body was found in PIB Colony on Saturday night had been raped and bludgeoned to death with a heavy stone. The minor’s body was found wrapped in a sheet in a garbage dump near Essa Nagri. She had disappeared after leaving her residence to buy confectionary on Friday morning.
