Women's role in journalism, politics lauded

K-P parliamentarian Bangash says involvement of women pivotal to breaking stereotypes, inspiring others

Lauding women for their role in the country's media and politics, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Kamran Khan Bangash has said that involvement of women in the two fields are pivotal to inspire others and break stereotypes.

Bangash, who is also an advisor to the K-P chief minister, said this while inaugurating a gruelling five-day course titled “Local body elections, participation of women and it’s significance in local governance “ organised by the Women Media Center at a hotel in Peshawar.

The training, held while ensuring the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) prescribed due to the pandemic, also saw the participation of senior journalists who shared their experiences with the participants, including importance of local body elections and the transparency mechanism in the local body election system in Pakistan.

The training, attended by 25 participants, includes exposure of outdoor reporting, camera handling, scripting, news reporting, and production of news package.

"The main intention to organise such workshops and training is to give women the confidence and practical space to stand shoulder to shoulder in a culture where the men get primacy," said Fauzia Shaheen, who is the executive director of the Women Media Center.
