PESHAWAR:

A transgender person was killed while another sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen shot them in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

The tragic incident sparked anger on social media with the people demanding justice for the deceased on the microblogging social network Twitter.

Cantonment SP Hassan Jahangir Wattoo, while confirming the attack, said that the incident occurred late on Tuesday night in the Palosai area of Peshawar, within the remits of the Tehkal police station.

He said both the transgenders Shakeel alias Gul Panra and Tariq alias Chahat, had been invited to the wedding party of a man identified as Hamad.

Locals told police that both transgenders were leaving the event after completing their performances when the lights were suddenly switched off. In the confusion, someone shot the two transgenders.

The victims were rushed to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced Gul Panra as dead while Chahat was provided treatment for her wounds.

SP Wattoo said that Gul Panra’s body has been sent for an autopsy while a first information report (FIR) of the incident has been filed on Chahat’s complaint.
