ZQ tried calling out Nauman Ijaz and people recalled 'Maachis'

The actor, back in the day, hosted 'Maachis' that shed light on societal issues

Veteran actor Nauman Ijaz unknowingly threw Pakistani social media into a frenzy after an old interview of his resurfaced and started doing rounds on Monday.

Ijaz, who is not one to land himself in hot waters often, can be seen talking to host Iffat Omar about ‘the secret of a successful marriage’, having been married for about 25 years now. Omar mentioned how artists are hopeless romantics to which he agreed, and when asked if he ever lost his heart elsewhere, he replied, “Beinteha (countless times).”

The Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila star irked many with his stance on infidelity, one of them being Zainab Qayyum (ZQ). The actor took to social media and shared her thoughts on the matter, saying, "Mandatory for celebrities and interviewers to realise that what might simply be jokes to them, that they may easily crack hanging out in each other's homes, can and will be rightly called out, torched and dissected if it is a public interview." She went on to add, "The decorum of grace, empathy and nuance (is) mandatory."

However, her tweet did not sit well with a few Twitter user. One of them reminded the actor of her infamous show, Machis, which gained ample popularity back in the day. Machis - a talk show, revolving around marital issues - was one of the most-watched shows due to its content. The user, therefore, called out ZQ for her 'hypocrisy.'

"Good advice!," he wrote, adding, "I remember a show you used to host (a show) on Hum TV named Machis where you would regularly ignite, instigate others (especially married couples) to bitterly fight each other on family issues just to get ratings and publicity."

He continued, "Do you feel any remorse now doing such toxic things in the past?"

To this, ZQ retorted, "Obviously, you didn't watch a single episode. Get off my timeline if you're going to be obnoxious."

Another one pointed out, "Hi ZQ, I noticed you first ever in Machis, you were very loud and outspoken that printed in my mind. That was long ago, I only remember one episode. Can you share your thoughts on doing that show?"

"Loved every minute of it," the host responded.

Another user lauded Machis and shared, "I remember a program on  Hum TV highlighting social issues which you hosted. You speak well, you should also do something and contribute ethically, not vile as Iffat Omar and lot."

However, back in 2016, ZQ had shared that she done with her talk show and will not reprise it in the future. Answering a query on the micro-blogging app, the actor wittingly remarked, "A combo crossover of Ellen DeGeneres and Aamir khan's shows hopefully. Maachis gracefully ran its course and retired. Done and dusted!"
