
The Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of the Islamabad Police has busted an inter-provincial gang of car lifters and recovered 12 stolen cars, worth around Rs20 million, a police spokesperson said.
The official said that an ACLC team, headed by SI Liaqat Ali, managed to bust a notorious gang of car lifters along with its ring leader. Of the three suspects arrested, they included gang leader Ziaul Haq alias Bila, Farooq alias Babar and Master Ilyas.
During preliminary investigations, the official claimed that the suspects had allegedly confessed to lifting cars from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as well as from other districts of Punjab. They would then smuggle these vehicles across the provincial lines and sell them in different areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Police added that among the cars recovered from the possession of the gang include Toyota Corollas with the registration numbers LZL-3172, AGO-921, MH-307, and AGK-789. A Suzuki Cultus with the registration number: LEA-9393, a Toyota Passo LEE-4384, a Suzuki Mehran with reagistration number LEB-7488 and a Suzuki Bolan AAW-992. Other vehicles recovered carried the registration numbers PC-969, LXW-636, LEE-9149 and AMB-187.
They further said that these suspects were wanted in different cases of car theft which had been registered in different precincts of the twin cities capital.
Deputy Inspector General-Operations Waqaruddin Syed appreciated the overall performance of the ACLC team and announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for members of the team.
He has further directed to continue a crackdown against car lifters, conceding that the rate of car theft in the capital has declined.
