NHA chief irked over highways condition

Capt Qayyum warned the relevant officials to take immediate steps to complete repair work on this at the earliest

ISLAMABAD:

National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman Captain (retired) Sikander Qayyum on Friday expressed his dissatisfaction with the poor condition of Wah-Taxila-Hassanabdal segment of the highway while suspending two maintenance officials in the neighbouring province for the poor state of the Rawalpindi-Peshawar highway.

He issued these directions while visiting the two segments of the highway (N-5) on Friday.

On the Peshawar-Rawalpindi section, Capt Qayyum took serious notice of the dilapidated condition of the carriageway on the Peshawar-Khairabad section.

He identified issues which needed routine maintenance works.

On the Wah-Taxila-Hassanabdal segment of the highway, the NHA chief expressed his dissatisfaction over its poor condition.

Capt Qayyum warned the relevant officials to take immediate steps to complete repair work on this at the earliest.

He added that maintenance activities on the segment will be reviewed when he re-visits the highway after 15 days.
