Losses caused by recent monsoon rains will be compensated, assured Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday. Committees, comprising elected representatives and officials of the revenue department, will be formed to assess rain losses and submit reports on the same, he said.
Addressing media persons during a visit to Saleem Nullah, in Tando Jan Muhammad and Mirkot, where the nullah's walls have cracked, Shah termed the recent rain spell the "first natural disaster of this big a scale the province witnessed after 2011 floods."
He further said that an investigation would be launched to identify who was responsible for the cracks in the nullahs' walls and action would be taken against them.
Meanwhile, during his visit to Marvi Bridge in Noorkot, Roshanabad and Purani Mori Jhudo he assured the locals of the government providing them food and shelter until the cracks in nullahs in their areas were repaired.
He was alerted by irrigation department officials about the Left Bank Outfall Drain containing water double the amount of its capacity.
He also visited people affected by rain and flooding in other areas and assured them of help.
On a separate note, responding to Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Shibli Faraz's criticism of the Sindh government, he said, "May be he is not aware that we need to help people in this time of crisis instead of doing politics [on people's] issues."
