A four-storey residential building collapsed in Nishtar Basti in the wee hours of Sunday. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. According to PIB Colony SHO Shakir Hussain, the structure was several years old and it belonged to a widow, Qamar Bibi, who resided in the building along with her daughter’s family and tenants. Upon complaints of the building having tilted, the police called a Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) team, which inspected the structure and ordered its evacuation and suspension of utilities. Buildings in the surroundings of the weakened structure were also vacated. The building later collapsed and damaged another house. The damaged house’s owner claimed the structure was weakened because of the five feet of rainwater accumulated in the street. He appealed to the Sindh government to compensate them for their losses.
