Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that the federal government was completely aware of the development needs of Sindh's people, especially of Karachi's, and assured that the Centre will play its due role in this regard.
He was presiding over a meeting held to review the progress of various uplift projects in Karachi. The meeting was attended by federal ministers Asad Umar and Murad Saeed among others; Governor Sindh Imran Ismail also participated in the meeting from Karachi via video link.
The prime minister was briefed on the ongoing situation in the city by governor Sindh.
He further said that a plan was being devised to solve the water and sewerage issues of the city.
Imran told the participants that relevant authorities were asked to carry out relief operations in the city. He added that he spoke to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah regarding the situation in Karachi after Thursday's heavy rains, and assured the provincial government of complete support from the federal government.
The premier underscored that Karachi was an important part of Pakistan and all its issues would soon be resolved.
The meeting came amid widespread destruction in Karachi in the wake of record-breaking rains that lashed the metropolis almost throughout the week.
At least 18 people were killed in rain-related incidents, including drowning, structural collapse, electrocution and other mishaps, in the city on just Thursday.
