Gunmen open fire outside MPA's house
Gunmen opened fire outside the house of Sindh Assembly MPA Syed Abdul Rasheed on Wednesday night in Bihar Colony, Lyari, causing chaos in the neighbourhood. No loss of life was reported.
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) MPA, his family members, and other area residents rushed out of their houses upon hearing the gunshots, and the Chakiwara police also soon arrived after receiving information. The police initiated its investigation by collecting evidence from the site, and found two spent bullet shells.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Express Tribune, Rasheed said that area residents informed him of two suspects on a motorcycle who opened fire outside his house around 4am and then fled.
According to Rasheed, there were certain people who were aggravated by him representing the PS-108 constituency in the provincial assembly. "There is no threat; however, I speak against drug peddlers, which does not sit well with some people in Lyari," he said. There are lots of problems that prevail in Lyari, he added.
"I will not be intimidated in this way. I did not become an MPA only to be scared away. I will keep trying to ensure that drug peddling ends in this area," said Rasheed.
In the absence of CCTV cameras in the area, the police recorded statements from Rasheed and eyewitnesses, and filed a case with further investigations underway.
