‘Micro’ lockdown reimposed in six cities

Lahore, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Attock and Gujranwala areas identified by PSHD

The Punjab government has reimposed a ‘smart micro lockdown’ in six cities of the province including Lahore.

Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (PSHD) issued notification on Wednesday confirming the reimposition of smart lockdown in Gujrat, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Attock and Gujranwala along with the provincial capital.

Total 33 areas in the six cities of the province, hosting a population of 3,747 individuals, will be put under the smart lockdown according to the official sources.

As per the notification, 66E block PIA Society, B2 Johar Town, Babar Street, Clifton Colony, Wahid Road, Nishat Colony, Ravi Bridge Saeed Park, Mangal Street Lohari Gate among other sites were identified for the smart lockdown in Lahore. The sources further revealed that in the last few days, patients from the aforementioned areas of Lahore were brought to the public and private hospitals for coronavirus tests. Most of these patients were tested positive for the contagion.

Authorities are wary that the citizens residing in these areas are flouting pandemic safety protocols despite constant reminders from the government therefore a decision was taken to put them under a lockdown. “The purpose behind reimposing this lockdown is to limit the influx and outflux of people and traffic from the affected locales,” PSHD spokesperson said.
