A boat of Edhi Marine Ambulance Service carrying Edhi Foundation chief Faisal Edhi and six others, including Sindh Assembly MPA Raja Azhar, capsized during a rescue operation in the deep sea near Sea View beach, it emerged on Wednesday.
However, no casualties were reported in the incidents and all aboard the boat remained safe.
Later, in a video statement, Edhi narrated that they were carrying out a search for eight drowned persons in Malir River and decided to sail via Sea View beach to reach the shore.
However, high tides in the sea turned out to be an issue. To add to it, the boat’s engine seized and eventually it was capsized after a high tide hit it, he said.
Though, the rescue team, wearing their life jackets, managed to hold onto the ropes of an inflatable boat they were carrying for about half an hour, Edhi said, adding that eventually some fishermen, on a boat, saw them and came to their help.
The fishermen the rescued team and with them, Edhi and others sailed to the shore in Ibrahim Hyderi.
