The Punjab education ministry has immediately stopped the rationalisation of teachers across the province due to strong protests by the educators. The final word on rationalisation would come after Asura.
Ministry of Education Director of Public Instruction Rana Abdul Qayyum while announcing the postponement of rationalisation in the talks with the Punjab Teachers Union leaders said that the department will hear complaints of the transferred teacers, come up with a solution and start the process again
Punjab Teachers Union leaders Chaudhry Sarfraz, Rana Liaquat and Sufi Ramzan Inqalabi suggested that six teachers should be posted in each primary school. In middle and secondary schools, there should be one teacher for every 40 students. For higher secondary schools, the leaders of teachers proposed appointing three teachers for each section of 40 students.
They strongly opposed the government’s policy of one teacher per 40 students. The union also demanded that no teacher should be posted in a school more than 10km from home and the teachers who were senior or near retirement should be exempted from rationalisation.
