Britain bans Dr Zakir Naik

June 20, 2010

LONDON: The United Kingdom is a tolerant and liberal place. London’s ethnic and religious mix speaks for itself. I’ve witnessed Muslims preaching religion freely on Oxford Street and all other religions peacefully passing by, not pressing the panic button. But it’s hard to think of Christians doing the same on the streets on Karachi. This nation has never permitted religious extremism from any side.

Let us not forget the UK barred Geert Wilders from entering last year on account of Islamic blasphemy. It is their country and they have every right to refuse entry to Dr Zakir Naik if they believe his presence damages national interest.

Ahmed | 14 years ago | Reply I advocate the fact that any country can allow or deny entry to any person on account of national interest. However the justification to deny any person entry should be valid. Zakir Naik is a prominent islamic debater and has a huge following of supporters. To deny him entry on the basis that he promotes terrorism is ludicrous. the evidence put forward to the home secretary is false and taken out of context. In a segment on Peace Tv, Zakir Naik himself has addressed to all those accusations which led to the denial of his entry. UK has the right to restrain, but doing that to a prominent scholar, harms his reputation and cast a black mark on all his supporters and further mislead the non-muslims who think Islam promotes terror.
