In an effort to ensure security during Muharram, the Peshawar police have launched a crackdown against tinted windows on vehicles, fake registration numbers and unregistered motorcycles in the provincial capital.
The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) in a notification on Saturday directed for enhancing security in the city during Muharram. The notification read that all relevant police stations have been directed to impound vehicles with tinted windows, unregistered vehicles and motorcycles.
Police have set up checkpoints at all the entry and exit points of the provincial capital while citizens have been advised to register their vehicles. Police have also launched crackdowns in different areas of the city.
Meanwhile, the first procession of Muharram was taken out amid tight security in the provincial capital. The procession started from the Fazal Hussain Imambargah which went through different areas of the city and culminated at the Syed Mustafa Shah Imambarga. Strict security measures had been taken for the security of the procession. The Qissa Khwani market, Kochi Bazar, and Yakatoot Bazar were closed while snipers were deployed on high rise buildings for security of the procession.
Ban on carrying sharp edged objects
The police have banned carrying sharp edged objects while traveling the in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
All police personnel deployed for the security at different BRT stations have been directed not to allow passengers carrying knives and sharp edged objects on the buses of the BRT. Police have been directed to confiscate such objects.
The directives were issued to ensure security of passenger traveling on the buses. The commuters have also been advised to stay vigilant for avoiding pickpockets and in case of any emergency call the police and Rescue 1122 for assistance.
