Steps taken to curb hate speech

The purpose of the meeting was to take legal action against the spread of religious hatred

CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed has directed the police officials to create a personal file identifying those who spread hate speech on social media platforms. He issued the direction while presiding over a high-level meeting regarding Muharram held at his office. DIG Investigation Shahzada Sultan, FIA Cyber Wing Director DIG Abdul Rab, SSP Investigation Zeeshan Asghar, Lahore SSP Operations Faisal Shehzad, CTD SSP, and PTA Legal Chief Rana Ashfaq were present on the occasion. The purpose of the meeting was to take legal action against the spread of religious hatred through social media platforms during the month of Muharram. The action taken against the perpetrators and its modus operandi was reviewed in detail. On this occasion, the FIA assured to issue immediate notices to those who upload hateful content, while it was also agreed to shut down provocative YouTube channels, Facebook accounts, and web pages.
