Balochistan sees jump in Covid infections

CM Jam Kamal Khan directs strict adherence to SOPs

Spokesman to provincial government Liaquat Shahwani has said Balochistan has seen an increase in the coronavirus cases in the last six days which according to health experts is not a good sign, hinting at imposing a lockdown again if the number of infections continue to rise.

"Total 1,238 tests were conducted on August 14 in which 88 people tested positive while overall 11,000 people have been recovered from the fatal virus since the outbreak in Balochistan," Shahwani said while addressing a news conference here in Quetta on Tuesday.

"Except marriage halls and schools, all sectors have been reopened in Balochistan thus the public should understand that cases have been declined but the virus still exists," he said, adding that the provincial government is concerned over the increase in cases during the last six days.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Aliyani on Tuesday took notice of non-implementation of precautionary measures against coronavirus in Balochistan. The CM sent a letter to all administrative secretaries, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners instructing them to ensure implementation on Covid-19 SOPs.
