A resident of Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Mansoor Ali Shaikh, accused on Monday his brother-in-law (wife's brother) of stealing cash and jewellery from his house.
Steel Town Police have registered a case for the robbery on Shaikh's behalf against his brother-in-law, Riaz Ahmed, and others.
In his statement to police, Shaikh, who identifies himself as a serving official in Karachi Police, said Ahmed had invited him, along with his family, for dinner to his house on August 9. However, when they reached Ahmed's house on the day at around 7.30pm, he was not there and came an hour later, said Shaikh.
According to Shaikh, all the time they were at Ahmed's house, he went outside thrice.
When Shaikh and his family returned home, at around 11pm, his wife, Reshman, found that Rs60,000 cash, kept in a plastic box, and gold jewellery, including a set of earrings and a locket weighing around four tola, were missing from a cupboard, he said, adding that he then checked the cupboard himself and to confirm that the valuables were missing.
He said the next day he became suspicious of Ahmed, along with other accomplices, carrying out the robbery at his house while they were having dinner at the former's house.
As per Shaikh, Ahmed had also stolen the key of his house's main gate.
He claimed he had been investigating the matter on his own and had found out that the stolen jewellery was in Ahmed's possession, following which he approached police to register a case of the incident.
After registering a case for the robbery, Steel Town Police handed it over to investigation police.
