Osman Khalid Butt breathes new life into 'Churails' title track

The latest song of the series has been penned by the actor and sung by Zoe Viccaji

After the unbridling of his Churails on Zee5, the title track for Asim Abbasi’s debut web series released on YouTube on Sunday.

Aside from being impeccably crooned by Zoe Viccaji, the song by Taha Malik has been penned by none other than popular actor Osman Khalid Butt. Butt has proven to be quite the articulate write on social media from time to time but who knew he could be this well versed in feminist anthems too?

The music video for the song shows snippets from the series whereby the churails can be seen dressing up to denounce the system, turning the patriarchy upside down by challenging social norms. Thus, the song also speaks about a 'dusra janam' - a second life - redirecting the listener's attention to the other side of a woman. It sits well with the narrative, given that the churails are in fact a product of the very society that critices them for standing against it.

The song is a challenge and possibly the last warning from the leading undercover detectives of the series to the antagonists. It goes on to deem these women the death of philandering husbands as it reiterates how the very traits that made them so infamous in society are now their weapons. It gives a new voice to the previously suffering in silence - the voice of matriarchy.
