Entertainment Desk August 14, 2020

August 13 marked 20 years since we lost the iconic Nazia Hassan. On the sombre occasion, another singing sensation, Hadiqa Kiani, took to Instagram to remember the legend, recalling a warm moment she shared with Nazia.

Hadiqa shared an old picture of herself in the frame with Nazia and Har Zulm singer Sajjad Ali. "The day we lost Nazia Hassan is a day I can never forget. She was kind, generous, loving and inspiring. We only met a handful of times and each time I was in awe of her beauty and grace." she wrote, before going down memory lane to unearth a special moment - her first meeting with the Boom Boom singer.

"The first time I met her was at this award show where I was being presented with some sort of Best New Artist award and Nazia had found out that I was such a fan," she recalled, sharing how Nazia had then snuck up on her and covered her eyes, asking, "Guess who?" Hadiqa then shared how she went still from shock until "I heard the most melodious voice say 'it’s Nazia!'"

"I’m not one to be starstruck but I could not believe it was her. We later talked and I was enchanted by her elegance and humble demeanour. Her support meant the world to me," said Hadiqa, adding that there are more stories that she would like to share, but perhaps some other time. "There will never be another Nazia Hassan," she concluded.

Hadiqa also added a link to a special playlist dedicated to Nazia, filled with her most popular songs.

Nazia was a prominent part of Pakistan's music scene, often hailed as the Queen of Pop in South Asia. The young hitmaker sadly succumbed to lung cancer at 35 years of age in 2000.
