KARACHI:

Saylani Welfare Trust celebrated Independence Day with young thalassaemia patients at the Saylani Blood Bank and Thalassaemia Centre on Thursday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and Sindh Baitul Maal chief Hunaid Lakhani, who was the chief guest, said he was happy to celebrate Independence Day with the children. “Pakistan is one of those countries where thalassaemia is spreading rapidly,” he said. “If couples get blood tests before marriage, thousands of children can be saved from this disease.”

He maintained the disease could be controlled by creating awareness. “Just as we have been fighting polio and coronavirus, we need to fight thalassaemia as well,” he added.
