The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has introduced policy reforms initiatives to inculcate futuristic skills and humanistic culture in the students enrolled in educational institutions running under the directorate.
Under the reforms, the institutions would work on the personality development of the students, building their communication skills along with making them eco-friendly. Different measures would be adopted to build these skills in the pupils.
In this regard, all the area education officers (AEOs) have been issued a circular. The documents read by The Express Tribune stated that the heads of all institutions have been directed to necessarily organise sports competitions and extra-curricular activities along with organising elections for students’ councils.
The revival of the house system in schools under FDE is part of the programme too. These are groups of students under a teacher a head boy and head girl. Usually these are named after independence movement figures like Jinnah House, Iqbal House, Liaquat House or simply red, blue, green, or any other names the school may chose.
The house system aims to build relationships, foster a sense of pride and encourages students to take on the leadership of all house activity, and a chance to give back to school life. The outcome of system is a stronger school community that all students and staff feel they actively belong to.
The heads of educational institutions have been directed to arrange debate and writing competitions, both in Urdu and English, between houses.
Moreover, to create awareness among the students regarding the environment, the first three position holders would plant saplings in the schools’ premises every year.
