Court summons Jhelum DPO over plea of victim framed in fabricated case

The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court has summoned Jhelum District Police Officer (DPO) Shakir Hussain Dawar and the Jhelum City police station SHO, and Investigation Officer (IO) for allegedly framing a family in a fabricated case.

City police station SHO and IO have been accused of barging into a house of a woman without arrest warrants and stealing Rs0.75 million cash, gold jewellery and other valuables.

The victim of alleged police brutality filed a petition through her lawyer Abdul Razzaq on Monday.

She said that the Jhelum City Police broke into her house without an arrest warrant on July 19. They tortured the women in the house and snatched cellphones and jewellery from them. The police allegedly robbed Rs750,000 the family had kept in their cupboard too.

Later, the policemen took the victim, her sister-in-law, and three infants with them to the police station where they were thrown into the lockup.

The petitioner maintained that the police registered a fabricated drug case against her and her family members to pressurise them.

The bench sought reply from DPO, SHO and IO in 10 days.
