ISLAMABAD:

Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench has issued orders to release a woman jailed in an allegedly fake property case while instructing a departmental action against Ganjmandi Police SHO and Investigation Officer (IO).

A single-member bench of LHC Rawalpindi Bench comprising Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz instructed to approve bail bonds worth Rs10,000 of the victim SP* and ordered to release her immediately from Adyala jail.

At the onset of hearing, the court expressed displeasure on abuse of power by the police officials whereas writing a complaint to the high judiciary to initiate action against the related magistrate too.

The counsel of the victim, Imran Abbasi, said that the Gnajmandi SHO and IO raided her client’s house and arrested her without any reason. He added that SP* was held captive and tortured for many days in the lockup.

However, despite that, the victim refused to accept anything that the police officials wanted her to confess following which they started harassing the victim’s family and started hurling death threats to them. Later, on failing to achieve their motive, the police registered a fake property case against SP* and sent her to Adyala Jail. The counsel pleaded the court to release her client on bail.

After the conclusion of arguments, the court ordered to release SP* immediately and ordered to carry out a departmental inquiry against both police officials.

Name withheld to protect identity of the victim
