PESHAWAR:

The provincial government on Friday deemed facemasks as mandatory for all staff and students when schools reopen next month.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday endorsed the September 15 date set tentatively by the federal government for reopening educational institutions across the country.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED) chaired by Education Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry.

The meeting directed all district administrations to clean and disinfect schools which had been declared as quarantine centres for novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients.

The relevant officials have been directed to ensure the availability of water and soaps in schools.

Further, teachers have been directed to observe the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs). The meeting also agreed that schools in districts where the ratio of the virus is high will only be reopened in consultation with the district administration to ensure the safety of teachers and students.
