The Blind Resource Foundation Pakistan (BRFP), a non-governmental organisation, has proposed to produce the soft copy of Grade 1 to Grade 12 course material in braille within a year, in order to facilitate the visually-impaired in their academic pursuits.
In a meeting called on Thursday to discuss the challenges faced by visually impaired persons, the BRFP pledged this measure as part of a broader undertaking focused on improving the quality of life among the blind, while also signing a memorandum of understanding with the Sindh Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) in this regard.
Furthermore, BRFP general secretary Mohammed Shakeel told the meeting the foundation would also assist the DEPD in printing study material in braille, so that education may be easier to access for visually-impaired students.
Signing the agreement, both the BRFP and DEPD acknowledged that this would play a significant role in reshaping the lives of the visually-impaired in the years to come.
Besides, BRFP president Waqar Younus highlighted the challenged faced by visually-impaired students due to the non-availability of course material in braille. "Education is the most important factor [for growth] in a person's life, and blind people are deprived of this blessing," he decried.
