ISLAMABAD:

The government on Wednesday appointed South Asia and SAARC Director General Zahid Hafeez Chaudri as the new Foreign Office spokesperson replacing Aisha Farooqui.

He will assume the responsibilities of the FO spokesperson in addition to his existing duties, according to an official notification.

Chaudhri is a seasoned diplomat with a career spanning over 26 years.

He has served at key Pakistani missions, including the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC and the Pakistani High Commission in London.

Chaudhri has also served as the director general of Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey at the foreign affairs ministry, the joint secretary national security at the national security division, and the director general at the president’s secretariat.

He holds a Master’s degree in International Law from the University of London and second Master’s in Business Administration.

The diplomat is also an alumni of the National Defence University, Washington DC.

His predecessor, Farooqui, was appointed to the post in December last year.
