ISLAMABAD:

Despite the passage of two weeks, the Islamabad police are still clueless about culprits involved in the abduction of senior journalist Matiullah Jan, who was abducted from the federal capital's Sector G-6 last month but was released later after strong reaction on local and social media.

Inspector General Islamabad has submitted progress report regarding the matter in the Supreme Court which will resume hearing tomorrow (Thursday).

The report said that efforts were underway to trace the culprits involved in the incident. In this regard, the report of various departments is awaited which was needed to carry out further investigation.

The capital police assured that all possible resources will be utilised to locate the accused involved in the crime.

The members of the investigation team have been directed to inform about progress report to IG on a daily basis.

Jan, speaking to a private news channel after his return, said that he was blindfolded and taken to an unknown location by his abductors. He said he was later released in Fateh Jang after being driven around the city.

The journalist was to appear before the Supreme Court a few days after the incident occurred. The apex court took suo motu notice of an allegedly contemptuous tweet from his Twitter handle.

After the incident, Information Minister Shibli Faraz had said that it was the government’s responsibility to safely recover the “abducted” journalist.
