Sindh IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar, other officials of the police department and political leaders revered martyred policemen on Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police [Police Martyrs Day], observed on Tuesday.
The IGP visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada, a monument built to honour martyred police personnel, at Central Police Office on the occasion, and paid homage to policemen who laid their lives in the line of duty.
Besides, Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, paying tribute to martyred policemen, said that all police officials fighting terrorists and criminals were a source of pride and heroes of the nation.
Specifically speaking about the Sindh Police, he said, "They have always fought criminals with bravery, the most recent example of which is them thwarting the attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange."
Meanwhile, Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab said in a statement issued in relevance to Police Martyrs Day that the Sindh government valued the sacrifices of martyred policemen and would not let them go in vain.
"They gave up their lives for the province's peace and security," he said, lauding their services.
Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also held martyred police officials in high regard, assuring that the provincial government was making all-out efforts to provide assistance and relief to their families.
Acknowledging the role of martyred officials role in maintaining peace and security in the country, he pledged to upgrade the police department so that it met international standards.
Other political leaders, including those of the Grand Democratic Alliance, also honoured the sacrifices of martyred policemen.
Besides, multiple ceremonies were organised in connection with Police Martyrs Day and camps were set up for donating blood to thalassaemia patients. Moreover, East District DIG Noman Siddiqi and other police officials laid flowers at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
Malir Police also organised flag marches in different areas in the district and South District DIG Malik Matloob Ahmed, Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur and other senior officials visited the families of martyred cops.
Police Martyrs Day is observed every year on August 4 across the country to acknowledge the services and sacrifices of martyred policemen and express solidarity with their families.
