Taylor Swift snags top spot on Billboard charts
Taylor Swift has done it again, and this time, in even better style. The songstress debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart with her latest single, cardigan, from her surprise LP folkfore, reported Billboard.
What’s even more impressive is that the LP itself blasted in at No 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, which makes T-Swift the first artist ever to chart atop both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 in the same week.
Swift, who released her last studio album, Lover, just last year, announced the new surprise album on July 23. “Tonight (July 23) at midnight I’ll be releasing my eighth studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into,” she had tweeted.
The Hot 100 songs chart not only features the No 1 single cardigan, but also two other songs from folklore; The 1 charted at No 4 while exile featuring Bon Iver sat at No 6.
The huge feats aren’t uncommon for Swift though. Folklore also marked the seventh No 1 album for her, as well as the biggest week for any album since Swift’s Lover. According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, folklore racked up 846,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending July 30 compared to Lover’s 867,000 units on the September 7, 2019-dated chart.
As if that wasn’t enough, Billboard also reported how in the last four years, the three biggest weeks for any album have been swept by Swift. From July 2016, the three largest albums have been Swift’s Reputation (1.24 million units), Lover (867,000), and folklore (846,000).
