ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday asked the counsel for Pakistan Navy to submit a detailed reply on the construction of a club on Rawal Lake.

This was directed on Thursday by a single-member bench of the IHC, comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while hearing a case on the construction of the club.

Chief Justice Minallah expressed his dismay over the failure of the navy’s lawyer to file a reply to the court on why the club was built in the first place. Pointing towards him, Chief Justice Minallah remarked: “You were supposed to inform the court under which law the construction of the naval club was legitimate.”

The court remarked that it had also directed to apprise the federal cabinet that laws are not being implemented in Islamabad.

“We did not tell anybody to seek support from the government. We need an answer to the question” he added.

“When the construction of a building is illegal in itself, what will the Capital Development Authority (CDA) do now?” he asked

The Deputy Attorney General (DAG) informed the bench that they have sought the opinion of the Attorney General (AG) on the matter too.

At this, CJ Minallah stated that whether AG’s opinion was sought when the CDA demolished the kiosks of poor people. The court directed the navy’s lawyer to submit a detailed answer on behalf of the Naval chief on the construction of the club and adjourned the hearing until August 7.
