Heavy rain early on Wednesday morning with gusty winds left many areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi inundated. The downpour in the twin cities began at around 3am and continued until 7am. The clouds dumped at least 57 millimetres (mm) of rain on Saidpur area of the federal capital while Shamsabad got some 27mm of a downpour while Chaklala and Golra received 19mm and Bhara Khau got only 8mm of rain. The low-lying areas and main thoroughfares of the garrison city were flooded. Teams of the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) were seen using suction pumps to clear the roads. Wasa Managing Director (MD) Shaukat Mehmood supervised the dewatering operation in the field and kept giving directions to the staff. As per the Wasa spokesperson, the water level in Nullah Leh was being monitored constantly.
