Indian troops on Wednesday initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation, injuring three innocent civilians, including two women, along the Line of Control (LoC), a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The military's media wing said that Indian army deliberately targeted civilian population in Rakhchikri Sector. The injured were residents of Akhori village near LoC.

Pakistan Army soldiers responded effectively to Indian firing, the statement added.

Soon after the incident a senior Indian diplomat was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to register strong protest over the ceasefire violation by Indian forces.

“Due to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing by the Indian occupational forces in Rakhchikri Sector of the LoC, Farida Bibi, Alam Bibi and Safeer Noor Din – residents of Village Akhori – sustained serious injuries,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office said.

It further stated that the Indian forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary (WB) have been continuously targeting civilian populated areas with artillery fire, heavy-calibre mortars and automatic weapons.

On July 17, at least two women were injured in yet another incident of unprovoked firing at civilian population along the LoC by the Indian troops.

On July 12, six civilians, including an 11-year-old girl, were injured by the Indian troops.

Indian ceasefire violations have witnessed a surge since August 5 last year when New Delhi abrogated the special status of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K), besides deploying tens of thousands of additionals troops to head off protests against its illegal move.

This year, India has committed 1,823 ceasefire violations to date, resulting in 14 martyrdoms and serious injuries to 141 innocent civilians.
