PPP says it would not withdraw its petitions against the NFC award from court

KARACHI:

Rejecting the new notification regarding the National Finance Commission (NFC) award issued by the federal government, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) declared it illegal and announced that it would not withdraw its petitions against the NFC award from court.

PPP general secretary Nayyar Bukhari, former senator Farhatullah Babar and Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab held a press conference on Monday, where they stated that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had written several letters to the Centre calling the NFC award notifications illegal.

However, they added, no action had been taken in this regard and so the party had decided not to withdraw the petition.

Moreover, Babar expressed concern about legislation pertaining to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Anti-Corruption Establishment. “The NAB chairperson failing to resign from his post is morally wrong after the Supreme Court’s verdict about the bureau being used for political engineering,” he claimed.

Babar maintained that the PPP was not against accountability but it should be done indiscriminately. He was of the view that the duration of remand should not be 90 days, adding that the NAB chairperson having the authority to issue arrest warrants was not right either.

Meanwhile, Babar claimed that there was news about Taliban getting reorganised in the tribal areas, claiming that extremism was being promoted in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
