The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has tightened its noose around those who defy the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) standard operating procedures (SOPs) and lockdown orders.
Over Rs5 million were collected in fines during the past month alone in the federal capital.
The assistant commissioners (ACs), on directions of the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat, sealed off some 151 hotels and 640 shops on either violating lockdown orders or precautionary SOPs.
Some 90 vehicles were impounded along with 1,400 challans.
The figures issued by the district administration on Saturday showed that Saddar Circle duty Magistrate Gohar Wazir checked some 140 spots and sealed off 14 hotels and 98 shops for not implementing the SOPs. He also imposed fines worth Rs157,000 on violators.

Special teams headed by Potohar and Shalimar Circles Duty Magistrate Sidra Anwar inspected some 244 hotels and shops and ordered to shut down 17 hotels and 41 shops for violating the government’s precautionary guidelines.
She collected fines of over Rs0.2 million during the past month.
In the same circle, some 17 vehicles got tickets for violating traffic rules.
In the Industrial Area Circle, Duty Magistrate Mehreen Baloch sealed off 161 shops and 55 hotels and also penalised them collectively over Rs174,000.
The official also took action against factories and workshops and ordered to seal 12 each of them on violating lockdown orders besides giving tickets to 12 motorists for violating traffic rules.
During the special drive in City Circle, Duty Magistrate Muhammad Danish imposed fines of more than Rs177,000 as he inspected some 212 places.
Some 27 hotels and 24 shops were sealed off Koral and Secretariat Circle by the duty Magistrate while 121 shops along with six markets were ordered to be shut down in the Rural Circle by the Duty Magistrate Abdullah.
SBP imposes Rs185m penalty on four banks
The violators in both circles were fined around Rs250,000 for violating SOPs.
As many as 100 shops were sealed off in City Circle along with 34 hotels that didn’t implement the precautionary guidelines and lockdown timing restrictions.
Lohi Bher Duty Magistrate Syed Waqar Hussain sealed 17 shops after inspection and penalised the SOPs violators around Rs177,000.
