‘Decision on reopening marriage halls soon’

Minister says hasty decisions cannot be made at the cost of human lives

KARACHI:

Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said on Friday that a decision would soon be made about reopening marriage halls.

During a meeting with a delegation of marriage hall owners, the provincial minister assured them that all businesses would soon be allowed to resume operations with the de-escalation of the pandemic, but added that hasty decisions could not be made while putting human lives at risk.

"The Sindh chief minister has held several meetings on the matter and all businesses will be allowed to resume operations in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs) with the decline in the pandemic, but hasty decisions shouldn't be made," said Shah.

"The Sindh government is fully aware of the plight of the working class but we cannot compromise on people's lives," he said. He assured them, however, that citizens would "soon get to hear good news."

He acknowledged that the coronavirus had added to the difficulties of the working class and adversely affected all sectors. He further pointed out that the pandemic had worsened the country's economic situation, adding that even then, the Sindh government had to take tough decisions with a heavy heart.
