ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday submitted its report in the Supreme Court regarding a case pertaining to the forensic audit of the housing societies.

The FIA report stated that all the zonal headquarters had been directed to complete inquiries of 279 out of 667 cooperative housing societies in the country until June 30.

The investigation agency said that a letter had been written to finalise the report of pending inquiries until July 15.

The advocate general of all the four provinces including the federation and the authorities concerned have been directed to launch criminal proceedings against the illegal housing societies.

The report said that a case had been registered against former management of Civilian Employees Cooperative Housing Society under Anti-Money Laundering Act.

It further said that an accused Muhammad Nawaz along with armed men had put up resistance against the FIA team and managed to escape.

Eight accused including Nawaz had been granted pre-arrest bail by a court.

The FIA requested the apex court to provide protection to its team.

The report said that non-registered provincial cooperative housing societies do not fall within the ambit of FIA and urged the top court to constitute a committee comprising provincial law officers to introduce amendments in cooperative laws.

It requested the apex court to direct the federal government to issue a notification forthwith regarding implementation of Companies Act.

The report further asked the SC to form a central agency on a federal or provincial level which could take action against the societies in the country.

It stated that a bill related to Real Estate Act had been presented in the senate.

The FIA had requested the court to initiate criminal proceedings against government officials involved in illegal housing societies.

The agency sought guidance from the top court to take action against cooperative housing societies which fall within the provincial limits.
