PM for comprehensive strategy to meet gas demands

The premier says there is a need to develop a strategy to meet gas demand in future

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for developing a comprehensive strategy to meet the country’s energy demands against the backdrop of its limited gas reservoirs.

“The issue of gas is not limited to a particular area or sector. This issue is needed to be placed before the Council for Common Interests (CCI),” the premier was quoted as saying during a meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting held comprehensive discussion on demand and supply of gas, gas infrastructure, issues related to gas sector and the strategy to meet the future gas demand. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Petroleum Division Nadeem Babar gave a detailed briefing to the participants.

Speaking on the occasion, the premier said there is a need to develop a strategy to meet gas demand in future through mutual consultation of all stakeholders.

PM Imran Khan directed the SAPM to place the matter for discussion in the CCI as well as to hold consultations with experts to arrive at a durable solution to gas crisis.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers – Pervez Khattak, Shibli Faraz, Dr Fahmida Mirza, Asad Umar, Omar Ayub – as well as SAPMs – Nadeem Babar and Shahbaz Gill.
