ISLAMABAD:

Ukraine’s Ambassador Volodymyr Lakomov is set to leave Pakistan after completing his extended, nine-year tenure. Ambassador Volodymyr will be the fourth ambassador leaving Pakistan this month. Others who are departing include the Ambassadors of Hungary, Sweden and Nigeria. Lakomov is the longest-serving ambassador amongst all those who are leaving this month. In the seniority list, he was second after Bahrain’s ambassador. During his long tenure, Ambassador Volodymyr promoted bilateral relations between Kyiv and Islamabad. He saw political power trading hands in the country, all the while there was upheaval in his own nation. He hosted several jam-packed national day receptions in which the envoys of the US and UK made rare appearances. Normally, both of them do not attend such events. Besides, he also hosted the Ukrainian diaspora at the embassy to listen to their grievances.
